Sri-Lanka is one of the largest gem producers in the world. The sapphire is the first stone of the island. The stones are extracted and shaped on the spot, to be then exported towards the greatest jewellers of the world.

DISCOVERY Gems invites you to discover the island of Sri-Lanka, its cultural richness, its luxuriant nature through its field sessions in gemology. Thanks to our knowledge on the spot, as well as our contacts, learn all the secrets of the precious stones of this marvellous country.

Through your gemology trip in Sri-Lanka, you will discover the mines, the traders, the heating techniques, the stone cutters, as well as the trading techniques, and much more.

This program is for groups of 6 people maximum. (Stay possible between December and March).

A la carte program possible for groups of less than or more than 6 people, extension to India in Jaipur, also possible from Sri-Lanka (on request).

Program :

Day 1: Welcome at Colombo airport, then departure for Beruwala and installation in your hotel, meeting traders in your hotel and rest.

Day 2: Full day course on gems, fundamentals, negotiation, and customs law.

Day 3: Visit to a gemological laboratory, followed by a visit to the world famous Beruwala market, with the traders.

Day 4: Departure for Ratnapura, followed by a visit to underground mines and river extraction sites in the Kiriella / Pelmadulla area.

Day 5: Visit of the rough and cut stone market in Ratnapura, then afternoon devoted to the discovery of local heat treatment techniques. (Burners and modern heating), then visit with lapidary.

Day 6: Morning free, then departure for Uda Walawe, overnight.

Day 7: Visit Uda Walawe National Park, where you can observe elephants, leopards, crocodiles, and many birds in the wild...Departure to Galle.

Day 8: Visit the city of Galle, and the jewelers in the famous city in the south of the island.

Day 9: Relax at the hotel, visit traders and leave for Negombo.

Day 10: Departure in the evening to Colombo airport for your return to Europe.

This rate includes, transfers to and from Colombo airport, hotel accommodation in single room, breakfasts, ground transportation, entrance to the national park, guides, all courses and visits, and administration fees.

This price does not include: the international flight from your country of origin (Return flight from Paris from 400 €/person), lunches, dinners, drinks, visa fees (currently free), your personal expenses and additional stone purchases, tips and taxes, as well as individual insurance.
